Sri Lanka rejects India's appeal to accept LTTE's ceasefire offer

Sri Lanka has taken strong exception to India's appeal to accept the ceasefire offer, proposed by the LTTE last week. The Sri Lankan government rejected India's appeal and made it clear that the Tamil Tigers would have to give up arms and surrender immediately to end the war.

Earlier, External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee had urged the Sri Lankan government to accept LTTE's offer for a ceasefire and take necessary steps to end the hostilities in the island nation.

Sri Lanka sees India's sudden change of stand on the war between Sri Lankan Army and the LTTE as a part of its domestic political compulsion.
